A 2 day, 1 night desert tour, departing from Marrakech, visiting Ouarzazete and staying overnight in a desert camp in Zagora.

 This tour is available as a shared tour or Private tour. 

A shared tour offers solo travellers and individuals the opportunity to join a group of people on the same tour. There is no single supplement, no minimum amount of people required to book. Shared tours still offer private accomodation. Our shared tours depart daily, so feel free to book for whichever day you like. The price of a shared tour is fixed....the price you book for is the price you pay!

First Day:

We Depart from Marrakech at 07:00hrs in a minibus or a 4x4 landrover. We travel over the Atlas mountains, enjoying the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside below and we visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. This journey takes approx 2 and a half hours.

From there, after our break, we continue to Ouarzazate (approx 1 hour or so) for lunch break.

Lunch is available in the local cafe's.

  After lunch, we continue along  the Drâa valley to reach our destination of Zagora.

After a break in Zagora, we meet our 4 legged friends, our Camels, who will take us on a 1 and half hour trek into the dunes to reach our desert camp at Erg Chegaga.

Each person rides their own Camel and additional Camels are provided to carry your luggage.

The Camel trek is usually just prior to sunset, so that you may enjoy the sun setting over the landscape from the top of the Dunes.

   

Once we arrive at the Desert camp, we are greeted with a cup of delicious hot minty tea and we spend the evening under the stars, on the dunes and beside the warmth of the fireside.

We enjoy a locally cooked meal of Tagine and couscous (vegetarians are catered for with vegetable tagine), a drum party and story swapping.

Accomodation in private Berber desert tents is supplied and all bedding is also supplied.

The camp does have washing and toilet facilities. 

Those that wish to can sleep directly under the stars.

The stars in the desert are a great opportunity to see as their are no artificial lights around and you can fully appreciate the glory of the skies above

For those that do not wish to ride a camel, we can arrange alternative accomodation in a local desert guesthouse by special request.

 

Day 2

After a traditional Berber breakfast, just prior to sunrise, we have a Two hour camel ride at sunrise to explore the area further and we head back to Zagora on our Camels.

When we reach Zagora, we have the opportunity to wash and then we begin our journey through the Draa valley and over the Atlas mountains, with plenty of stops for photos and lunch, to Marrakech.

           

We usually return to Marrakech, arriving at around 17:00hrs or 18:00hrs.

 

For those clients who wish take an evening train to Fes, once they arrive back in Marrakech, we can advise that we do usually arrive back in Marrakech with enougth time for you to take a taxi to the train station to catch the 7pm train to Fes. However, we cannot be held responsible for a missed connection due to, perhaps, a delay in our arrival time back in Marrakech.

Clients booking a private tour will be collected and dropped off at their Marrakech accomodation.

During the night, the desert can become quite cold, even in high summer.

We advise that all clients should bring some warm clothes.

Lunch is not included in the price but can be purchased along the route in local cafe's for approx 2 to 3 euro depending upon your choice.

As this is a budget tour, a guide is not included in this tour.

Clients booking a private tour can choose to add a guide at the cost of 350 dirham per guide, per day. This is approximately 30 euro per day, per group....not per person!

Deposits are non refundable.

For cancellations within 7 days of your tour date: 100% of the balance is charged.
For no shows: 100% of the balance is charged.

Clients who experience travel problems and wish to change their dates after booking can usually do so without charge by emailing us. We can be very flexible when it is possible.

Daily

The starting point of the tour is adjacent to the Djemaa El Fna square in the Marrakech Medina. Shortly after we recieve your reservation, we email you a Desert tour FAQ, including a modified google earth map showing the departure point.

The end point of the tour is the same as the starting point.
